About 30 community representatives from Vura Ward in Honiara have met and have dialogue with the newly established Waste Management Division of Honiara City Council.
Councillor of Vura Ward Regniald Ngati said the initiative for the dialogue is for the community members to voice out their concerns and also for the Division to provide feedbacks.
He said waste collection has been an issue in Vura ward and also other wards in Honiara.
“There is always been the complaints from residents about rubbish not being collected and I have decided for my community members to meet with the Waste Management Division and discuss on how best we can work together to help address this issue,” he added.
“This is also for my community members to create a network and also to further understand the role of the newly established division,” he added.
Ngati said he believes this is the way forward to assist the communities in terms of waste management.
He said after the first consultation, the Waste Management Division will be invited to come down to the community for further dialogue on understanding and creating a better way to address waste issues.
He further acknowledged the Waste Management team for accepting their request for the dialogue.
