RSIPF arrests man, 25 for allegedly raping girl, 15 in Western Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Munda Police station in Western Province have arrested and charged a 25-year-old man on 5 October 2020 with three counts of allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl at Arararosa Village in the Roviana Lagoon.

The matter was reported  at the Munda Police Station on 1 of October 2020 and the defendant was arrested on 5 October and escorted to Gizo on 6 October 2020 to appear before the Gizo Magistrates’ Court for a remand application today(7 October 2020).

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “According to initial reports, the defendant allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim on three different occasions at the same location at Arararoso Village in the Roviana Lagoon where the victim attends school.”

PPC Lenialu explains, “The defendant has been arrested and charged with three counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 18 years contrary to section 140 (1)(a) of the Penal Code (Amendment)(Sexual Offences) Act 2016.”  “I call on parents and community leaders to work together with the Police in combating such an activity that is now affecting our young girls. Men in the Western Province please respect our young girls and women,” says PPC Chief Superintendent Lenialu.
