Police investigates threat against Prime Minister and family

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Honiara are investigating a mobile text message swearing and using obscene language against the Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare and members of his family.

Initial reports say that Prime Minister Sogavare and his wife Madam Emmy Sogavare attended church at Mamulele SDA church as both were invited by the Mamulele community in Honiara.

After the church worship, Mrs Sogavare received a text message on her mobile phone swearing at her and family with a threat to cut off their throat. The text message was mainly targeted at the Prime Minister and family.

RSIPF condemns such action in the strongest term. Police will not tolerate anyone found initiating or involved in such unlawful activity. If anyone is not happy with the Prime Minister or anyone for that matter sending such swearing words and threatening their lives is not the way to go about it. Get in touch with the responsible authorities and establish dialogue so an amicable resolution can be agreed upon.

RSIPF appeals to members of the public who may have any information on this matter to pass it to the police by going to your nearest police station or calling the police on these phone numbers: 23666, 22999 or toll free 999.
