The Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) reminds members of the public that causing unnecessary loud noise and public nuisance in a public places and in our communities is an offence in law.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City Superintendent George Paikai says, “Causing unnecessary loud noise may amount to common nuisance, an offense pursuant to section 172 and 187 of the Penal Code.”

“As Christmas and New Year 2020 festivities are underway let us remind ourselves that this festive season should never be compromised with unlawful activities and unwanted behaviors. We must have some respect towards one another through trying to minimize the noise especially late into the night disturbing others who are having their rest.”

“Intelligence suggested to note that some noise especially in Honiara City recently is caused by illegal crackers, torches or firesticks. I am not too sure whether permission has been obtained from responsible authorities to use such objects. If no permit has been granted then people who are using these objects are committing a crime and can be liable for prosecutions.”

PPC Paikai explains: “Members of the public who are affected by loud noise   have the right to lodge a written complaint or report directly to any of your nearest police station so that an investigation can be conducted and an appropriate action taken.”
