A heavy rain warning has been issued by the weather office this afternoon.
The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) says the heavy rain alert is now upgraded to heavy rain warning and is now current for most provinces.
SIMS says the situation is that a trough lies northeast of Solomon Islands whilst a general easterly trade wind flow persists over the country.
“Associated cloud and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect most provinces and islands.
“Such localised heavy rain may lead to possible landslide and flash flooding over communities living near hill slopes, close to large rivers, streams and low lying areas.
“Sea travelers are urged to consider safety actions as such heavy rain can reduce visibility.
“People are therefore strongly advised to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of lives,”the weather office warns.
